On Wednesday afternoons at the Arlington Central Library, about 30 Japanese language learners gather to converse with each other supported by the native speaker volunteers. Each class is divided into four tables, and those with higher-level proficiency congregate at one end while the beginners are joined by the SJA member, who is a certified teacher of Japanese, to advance their studies.
Recently, the usual meeting room was transformed into a Halloween potluck and origami experience. Students were able to enjoy homemade traditional Japanese snacks as well as trick-or-treat Halloween candies while making origami ghosts, bats, and black cats. A spooky, fun time was had by all!
