AANHPI Event at George Mason University

Written By: Naoko Kamioka

On Sunday, May 3, SJA hosted a table at George Mason University’s celebration of AANHPI Heritage Month, sharing our activities and the joy of origami.

The event, sponsored by the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, welcomed a vibrant mix of Asian cultures—from Vietnam, Korea, and China to Japan—through exhibits, music, and dance performances. As for the Japanese performance, the Japanese marimba musicians played traditional Japanese song pieces with marimba and demonstrated striking drums with mallets — such an unexpected fabulous performance!

Our SJA table was buzzing with families and children eager to try origami. Two middle school students from Fairfax generously helped teach, and the children absolutely loved it. Hands-on activities like these are always a wonderful way to connect, spark curiosity, and bring people.
