National Go Center at Weekly Japanese Conversation Class

On September 16th, we had the privilege of welcoming the National Go Center to Arlington Central Library for a special visit with our Wednesday conversation class. Members brought a large demonstration Go board to the front of the room and walked everyone through the rules step by step. Participants raised their hands to come up and try out different strategies on the board, and the room filled with energy as the lesson turned into a fun group activity. After explaining the rules, National Go Center members sat down to play a few games with attendees and offered guidance along the way. At the end of the visit, they shared booklets covering the basics of play so everyone could keep learning at home.

Go is one of the oldest board games still played today, with a history stretching back around 3,000 years. The rules are simple enough for anyone to pick up, but the strategy runs deep enough to keep players hooked for a lifetime. It's said to sharpen problem-solving and spatial skills, and it's just as fun in the classroom as it is at the office. The National Go Center welcomes everyone to give it a try!

Thank you to the National Go Center for spending the afternoon with us, and to everyone who came out to play!
