First Youth Online Cultural Exchange with GlobaLab

by Kenshu Dieguez

On August 9th, SJA hosted a virtual cultural youth exchange event with GlobaLab, a student community run by Japanese high schoolers in Nagano. The theme of the event was “connecting through what we love.”

Students from each side were assigned a partner to whom they discussed interests and passions they have. Discussions alternated between English and Japanese, so not only were students able to practice learning Japanese, but they formed intimate connections with Japanese students from across the world!

I personally had an amazing time at the event. It proved to me that the best way to learn Japanese is to use it in real-world conversations. By the end of the event, I improved my Japanese tremendously and made a friend that will last me a lifetime.

I recommend everyone interested in Japanese to join the next cultural exchange event! You don’t want to miss it!
